Oh yeah, sort of. That's not one of the reasons Dean hasn't said yes, but I thought that was one of the reasons why Michael wasn't hopping into a body to convince Dean the way Lucifer has being trying to convince Sam. I vaguely recall hearing that Sam and Dean as the true vessels will be the only ones that won't be destroyed by Lucifer or Michael inhabiting them. But I just assumed the body would slowly wither like Lucifer's temp body is now. Or maybe it's a bloodline thing.
Knowing they won't be destroyed by their vessels though, maybe the conclusion we'll get to this won't be Sam and Dean able to say no to their angel leeches but instead temporarily overpowering them once they are in there, like John did old Yellow-Eyes at the end of Season 1.

I wonder how long something like that takes to get through production and be released? We need Primo to stop by and tell us whether to get our hopes up about the story itself.

Oh my word! I lost track of how many times I gasped or shouted during this episode. That was partly because I was caught up in the story events. Oh, no! Sammy! followed quickly by, Hurry, Sam! Do it! (Dude, did you see him exorcising multiple demons at once? The guy is glorious!)
I also had the satisfaction of receiving lots of theory-related pings. So, I'm very happy. (Except March 25th is like f-o-r-e-v-e-r away.)

Did anyone else think Dean was getting ready to say Yes at the end there?

I thought many times this episode of what Mara said about Dean wanting a family and a normal life. It's remarkable how much Dean has changed since being the love-the-huntin-life brother from Season 1. I got the distinct feeling at the end, when he was next to the Impala, that Dean was one step away from just hopping in the car and driving away from it all. Poor boy is tired. So very very tired.
Sammy rocked the house tonight! I am right there with you, Robin. As much as I love watching Sam fight his bloodlust (and I was SO proud of him when he didn't try to hide that he was jonesing for it and asked them to lock him down. ) it is goddamn EXHILARATING to watch him work his power.
And in my list of my top 3 favorite things about this show, as follows...
#1 - when the boys hug
#2 - when Dean calls Sam "Sammy"
#3 - when they speak or act in unison
With the exception of #1, which is tragically a rarity, the other two were blissfully abundant! Well, maybe not abundant, but enough to make me hug the pillow I was holding. "Sammy, no!" For some reason, those two words warm my soul.
edit: ah, Blondie. interesting thought, you may be right. i read it differently, as I mentioned above, but overall Dean was definately thinking something that we didn't get to hear. which I love. Ackles killed that final scene.

I think it has to become a real option for him.
I loved Sam saying NO so plainly to Famine. I didn't think he was tempted.

Also, if there was ever an effective Anti-Valentine's segment, those first five minutes of this episode were it.

It really has. I got a feeling for the first time this season that Dean may be closer to the brink than Sam.

Oh, Amber, I'm with you on the good brother-stuff this ep. We also got the brother theme music while they were investigating. And, if we didn't get a hug, we at least got the shoulder touch and concerned looks when Dean left Sam.

Isn't it wonderful what this show can do with sentimental holidays?

No kidding! Way to throw the brakes on the momentum, CW. A few weeks is one thing but a month and a half?!! If Famine came into my town on March 24th I wonder if I would die from the hunger I'll be having for a new episode. Atleast we got a serious feast before this famine.

*gets mental image of Dean/Sam fangirls getting even more rabid than they are now*
Whoa. That's a scarier thought than anything I've seen on the show.

:heh. I hope this extended break means we'll get a good unbroken run through to the end when they do come back.
I honestly wouldn't complain about a little bit of time to think back and connect up some dots, though.

By the way, I love that at some point in the past Dean has referred to his annual Valentine's Day prowl as "unleasing the Kraken".

Lots to like for sure! The cupid actor did well with pulling off that ridiculous part and everybody was so uncomfortably funny about the naked hugging.

Heads up, TNT is having something like a Supernatural marathon this Sunday from around 10am to 6pm thereabouts. It's a bunch of random episodes from the first 5 seasons, no particular order, but most look to be good ones (Tall Tales, Monster at the end of this book, Yellow Fever).
Can't think of a better way to fill the void of no more football!

I'm at the opening credits.
HOLY CRAP THAT IS GRUESOME. That is just about as disgusting a thing as I've ever seen on television, and I'm counting Dexter. The sound effects were... I'M FREAKING OUT.

Whoa, I think I may have just moved from Team Dean to Team Castiel. It's been building for a long time, but I'm there.

Wow, excellent episode. Gory, funny, sad... just great. Poor Dean. Loved Castiel talking on his phone in front of Dean (of course), the naked cupid ("I don't like it." "Nobody likes it."), poor Sammy's bloodlust, all of it.
Except for the first five minutes, which were UNPARDONABLY GROSS.

That opening was ridiculously brutal, "my bloody valentine" ---> just genius on how many levels that works for the show.
In addition to what everyone's said, I love the fact that the boys are being honest with each other. Sam right away told Dean that he was feeling the urge, which is a far cry from last season. Looks like we're inching that much closer to the Michael/Lucifer showdown via the boys.
Wait, March 25?? Didn't it JUST come back from a long hiatus?

Here's what I thought of when I rewatched....
Anyway, it made me realize how long it's been since I saw The Passion of Joan of Arc so that's now at the top of my queue.
Theory-time: As awful as the opening sequence already was, imagine it as an illustration of Sam and Dean's "dangerously codependent" relationship. (I'm presuming there's something to Castiel's line in The End: "The key to this total, shared perception—it's, um, it's surprisingly physical".)

So looks like we're getting a season 6 after all.
http://tv.ign.com/articles/106/1069417p1.html
| Quote: | Supernatural Renewed for Season 6
The Winchesters aren't done fighting demons.
by Eric Goldman
February 16, 2010 - Supernatural will continue beyond the apocalypse. Putting to rest a lot of speculation, The CW has announced the show is officially renewed for a Season 6. Yes, this means the series will continue past the five year story arc planned by series creator Eric Kripke, but for the past year, Kripke has said he has ideas on where the show could go in a sixth year – while he also has promised that his original storyline will still wrap up this season as planned. |
When I first heard about these plans, I wasn't really a big fan of continuing the story after something like the Apocalypse storyline. That being said, if Kripke has enough ideas for another season, more Supernatural can't possibly be a bad thing. I'm hoping for a more personal arc in the last season.

I CALLED THEM ON THE PHONE.
That's huge for me. I have phone phobias. Buying it today after work. (The lady at the store: "Gosh, that's a great price.")

Whoa! Thanks for the heads up, slq. I was debating on whether or not to eat out at Panera tonight. That pretty much sealed it. Panera, then Best Buy.
