I will definately need to rewatch this weekend, there was a lot that went on in this episode.
I agree with Miscreation totally. We've had so many interruptions and non-arc episodes this season it seems like a lot that is going on just happened out of thin air, with no real build-up.
Like....
Spoiler:
Sammy and his powers. When did he all of a sudden start channeling the force. I know it's been hinted that he and Ruby have been practicing with his powers but dang, all of a sudden he can force push people out of the way and he can exorcise really bad demons with a flick of his hand. Whoa, I yelled when I saw him start doing that at the cemetary. Sammy, what have you done?
And I have to say, PAMELA.....
Spoiler:
NOOOOOOOOOOO, I love Pamela. I was so excited when I saw she was going to be on the episode, I love her. She entered the room and I knew something was wrong, her demeanor was so cold, she's wasn't her jovial self. She knew something bad was going to happen. Dang, why do they kill off all the cool women characters that I like (yep, I'll admit it, I really liked Bella and Ellen and even Jo).
Like I said, I will need to rewatch this weekend because a lot went down last night.

I watched it! It was well worth the wait! And the story arc that I've been seeing this season - whether Dean is all the way back from hell - is the one I saw movement on. Castiel proclaiming victory makes sense in that regard too. I'm fairly certain the next big question is one I started to ask a while back but it makes me so sad I didn't (dont!) want to go there.
I missed some of what Pamela whispered and a line from Tessa. As soon as I calm down, I'll push play again.
My biggest laugh probably came with the Huggy Bear crack. Man, I loved Starsky and Hutch and their Striped Tomato. Speaking of which.... did we get any Impala? I don't remember the Outsiders reference but will be on the lookout for it when I replay.
I think the boy's house was the same one used for the Campbell's home in In the Beginning. I'd lay a bet we've had that wallpaper more than once before.

By the by, Sam may yet become my favorite Winchester ever. Did we notice he was wearing his hoodie?
Sam being the one to talk to the kid at first reminded me of Dean with Lucas in S1. (I swear I'm going to do a blog entry about all the f-ing closets in the series over the summer.) Sam lying to the kid? Breaks my heart because I didn't see Sam doing it just to make things easier or taking any enjoyment in the process. Sam really didn't see any other option in order to do what needed doing. Jared Padalecki keeps surprising me and I suppose I should just start expecting the quality he's giving us.
I'm not even close to having my head stop spinning over all the implications. I'm not rewatching until I sort out the questions a bit more....

I did my rewatch on Sunday afternoon. I caught the Outsiders reference. It was Pamela, oh Pamela, I miss you already.
I'm looking into going to one of the Supernatural conventions some time this year and paying good money to meet Jared and Jensen (and Tracy). If I ever get to meet Jared, I'm going to tell him he has a nice hard ass that I could bound a nickel off of. He'll probably put out a restraining order but that's okay, it will be worth it.

Ha! I hope this happens for you! I know you did a Star Wars traveling exhibit, right? Have you ever attended a full-blown fan convention? From the accounts I've read, people are happy with their experiences at the SPN conventions - enough that they'll end up attending more than one.
I know I'd get a kick out of living vicariously and demanding pictures.
End of Season 1! Thank God I had Season 2 right there. I am going to die when I get to the end of Season 2.
My Daughter Manda is addicted to Supernatural as well and is VERY VERY pissed at me for speeding ahead into Season 2 to see what happened... but as soon as I saw what happened to Dad.. I stopped and waited...
I love the relationship between the brothers. SO real and so painfully heart-broken for so many different and yet the same reasons.

Oh, Sherry! I'm beyond pleased that this show works for you and your family. Believe it or not, you're only beginning to know how much you can care about the Winchesters. Keep watching and letting us know where you are with it!
I can't tell you people how much I love the past episode. I do not think Sam was lying to Cole about swearing Cole could stay. Here's the shiny new revision of my S4 theory: (no one should feel obligated to click or comment):
Spoiler:
Cole, like most (all?) of the cases we've seen, is an illusion. (I'm currently thinking of them as created player-props like the Trickster used?) Sam has made enough progress with understanding Dean's ISSUES and juiced up his powers enough that he's gotten pretty good at creating what he hopes Dean needs. Sam can (must!) stay more detached because he understands the truth of their nature (lacking substance and temporary). The thing is... Dean is a smart enough cookie and good enough hunter and burdened with so many ISSUES, that it won't work unless Sam makes them convincing and 'real.' What must it take for Sam to pull this off?
Cole's got more Sammy in him than anyone we've seen yet, I think. (I hope that is a trend we see continue and grow. Heaven knows Sam has his own boatload of ISSUES.) Cole's room made it clear he was a soccer player with trophies and everything. He knew his mother (Dean is Sam's mom in many ways, right?) was mourning for him and he didn't want to leave her though his "presence" continued her pain.
What do the boys learn? The kid was afraid. The kid chooses to face that fear and go with Tessa on Dean's advice. The idea of miracles is a mistake. Everybody lies - to each other and themselves. Dean wished he'd gone with Tessa when he had the chance after the accident. (Oh, how I wished he hadn't been interrupted from elaborating on how he feels NOW about the second chance he got. Remember how rejuvenated he was by it when talking to Jamie in Monster Movie?) Dean is told to trust his instincts. ("What'd it cost, Sammy?")
I think Pam had to die because she was another creation. Originally intended to help Dean (not)see, she is no longer needed. Dean's ready to take on that task for himself?
Our boy is almost back from hell. (I hope, I hope, I hope.) I SAM WINCHESTER and his freaking demon blood. I especially love that the show is taking a whole season to lift Dean out of hell. Even better is that we got Dean digging out of that grave before realizing there's still so far to go. (Again, this is just today's version of what I'm thinking. )
Gosh. If this season were a SIREN, I couldn't love it any more.
A neat thing I saw someone point out about the ep was that Sam never displayed any of the ghost powers we saw Dean learning. I haven't thought through the implications of that, but I'm sure it means something important. And it's an excuse for another rewatch.
Also. I popped in some S1 of Weeds to watch the kid who played Cole and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. As a bonus I got the shapeshifter dracula actor, Todd Stashwick, too!
That would be awesome. Is that Labor Day weekend? I'll have to check it out. I was looking for something a little more local but going up to Vancouver would be awesome.
That "J&J" sandwich sounds yummy. And yes, I would pay for a photo op with the Impala (and the boys of course). I wonder if JDM goes to any of these? I would love to meet him as well.

I am officially lamestupid sick. I slept through the first half of the ep. I hadn't even turned on the vcr because I was planning to push REC and PAUSE to get rid of commercials. I literally had everything arranged and at 20 minutes before showtime, I laid down to do eardrops.
I got there just as Alastair and Castiel started to mix it up over an unconscious Dean. I don't know what I think about anything I did see.
Even if I quit being dizzy, I may need to call in sick tomorrow to recover from this additional trauma.

Feel better soon Robin. It was a good episode, but also pretty tough to see.
indeed it was. i'll spoiler since folks haven't seen it all...
Spoiler:
i was covering my eyes and peaking through my fingers repeating "oh my god..." as Sam drank that demon blood. how awful. all that power he was displaying we all knew it was bad and going to lead somewhere ugly, but if you still weren't convinced that despite good intentions it is destructive behavior then that scene should have convinced you. getting high on a drug.
shades of season 2 premiere with Dean on the vent. can't wait to see what Robin has to say about that.

Do NOT do it, Sherry. A ton of the satisfaction I'm getting from this season is in the ways it reverberates off of the stuff that came before.
It took forever for iTunes to get the ep available (longer than last week). I'm not hearing anything but the ocean out of my one ear. I can't turn my head without threatening to topple over and the new med has me sick to my stomach. I am as pathetic as I've ever been.
Then the show beats up on Dean so very badly. I will have to compose myself and watch again, but this fits for anyone tapped into my view of the season.
SAM IS MY HERO.
Spoiler:
Remember the Dissociated Dean in my theory? Ruby IS Dean/Sam - that desperate, selfish, no matter what, he's my brother, to hell with anything else, guilty neediness embodied when Dean made the deal to resurrect Sam. She has one priority - SAM - and will break rules to ensure Sam's survival and make him as strong as he needs to be. Right now he NEEDS to be strong enough for both brothers. I do trust her to be acting for Sam's benefit (her dark view of that) and by extension, Dean's. I'm thinking her season four personality shift is because she was infused (?) with some other aspect of the Dean/Sam bond (loving self-sacrifice, perhaps) when Dean paid the price and was hauled off to hell. Or when Sam did whatever he did to bring Dean back. (I hope it was prayer and not another deal.)
Just as Pamela was created to SEE when Dean couldn't/wouldn't, and Anna created to HEAR what Dean was unable to understand, I think Castiel was intended to EXPLAIN what Dean feared to accept.
Why aren't the angels all excited and disapproving and warning about Sam using his powers the past two eps? Why was Bobby relatively calm about the fight over the siren? BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY. (It has to be.)
If this doesn't make sense, please assume it's because something important escaped out my leaky ear. If I'm all wrong abut this, it still has made a way for me to watch with some hope. I couldn't stand it otherwise. It'll be awful if the show takes that away and doesn't replace it with another way for me to get through the summer. Man, I dread another one like last summer.
Next week?
Spoiler:
Castiel channels Clarence? (I plan to smile about that idea all week until the show makes me cry about however they play it out.)

4.16 spoilers - still haven't rewatched
Spoiler:
How closely did Ruby cutting her arm echo when Dean did it at the start of 3.07 Fresh Blood to lure the vamp? (In that ep Sam appealed for Dean to act like his brother again and it ended with Sam decapitating Gordon and getting a car maintenance lesson.)
Sam is in the driver's seat now.
I loved the effect for the giant dark wing-prints of the dead angels.
I loved that there were references to John but hate that they were used to make Dean feel like crap instead of to comfort him or build him up.
Heaven knows what I'll think of noticing next.
Sherry - let us know what ep you're on in S2 and I'll rewatch it this weekend and get all excited about it with you.

I just wanted to say that Ash (sans the mullet) is in the latest episode of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. He plays a cop.
I've started to go through the first season of Life. Damian Lewis's partner is played by the woman in white (Sarah Shahi) from SPN's pilot. I knew that from the few eps I'd seen. I didn't know a mullet-less Ash (Chad Lindberg) also appeared in Life's pilot, though. Now, in the third ep, we get Henricksen (Charles Malik Whitfield) WITH hair!

I called it at the beginning of last week's episode that jugless was also playing for the other team. I knew it was him killing all those angels.
This week's episode is looking like it will be some good fun.

But.....I really like Ruby now and don't want her on anyone else's team! It's fine with me if she isn't housebroken, so to speak, but I eventually want her redeemed. More like a Spike or Sawyer character - playing for herself (which I think means playing for Sam).
I don't think Ruby is playing for the other team. She's loyal to Sam. I think the episode proves that what you are, whether it be angel or demon, doesn't determine which side you're on.
