DAY 35: Claire is approached by Locke, who says he needs help on a project building “something”. Since Claire is wizard at making sawing motions, she’s recruited, though Locke won’t divulge what they’re building. As the project comes along, she guesses it’s an animal trap, but Locke isn’t saying. He impresses her with the glue he made, and also with the fact he’s giving her something to do.

She says her memory is only in bits and pieces, but Locke says he’s good at putting bits and pieces together. Still working on the project that night, Claire confides in Locke that she doesn’t have a name for the baby yet and that she was going to give it up for adoption. She then tells Locke it’s her birthday – Locke wonders why she didn’t tell anyone, then says it’s good luck for the baby to have a close birthday with the mother.

Claire asks Locke if he believes in luck and he says he believes in a lot of things. Claire is still confused over what she has been working on all day… until Locke turns over the project and begins rocking the cradle they’ve just made. He wishes her a happy birthday – Claire says thanks back.

DAY 37-38: Claire walks on the beach – looking a little pained as she holds her back & stomach. Sawyer offers her some freshly-cooked fish, but she says she isn’t hungry. She asks on the status of the boat, and Michael says it will be ready in a week, maybe less. He senses something is wrong, but Claire assures him she’s fine as she makes her way into the jungle.

Somewhere in the middle of the jungle, Kate finds her whimpering and in obvious pain leaning against a tree. Kate soon realizes Claire is about to have her baby. Claire tries to wave Kate off saying she’s fine and its just gas pains – but Kate knows better – finally Claire says she’s unable to move. Kate begins yelling for help. After a short time, Jin finds the two – seeing Claire in the middle of the painful contractions.

Kate gives her bag to Jin and tells him to get Jack. Claire suddenly perks up as she realizes the contractions have stopped – she actually stands and begins to move again. Kate tells her its part of the labor, but Claire seems ready to get back to regular life… until her water breaks. Claire starts screaming that she can’t have the baby… not now. Kate reassures her that Jack is on his way.

The contraction begin again, when Charlie & Jin return with the supplies. Jin sits down with Claire and does his job of calming her down. Claire confides to Jin that she’s scared that while she was gone, “they” might have done something to her baby. She’s scared. Kate is scared too, but tells her that they will get through this. Kate begins to coach Claire through the delivery.

Suddenly, Claire begins to hold her breath, not pushing at all. She says the baby will know that Claire was going to give it up for adoption – that she didn’t want it. Kate snaps her out of it – she’ll love the baby and the baby will know that. Claire begins to push. Kate continues to coach Claire though, and Claire continues pushing.

Finally, after one final push – Kate announces she has given birth to a baby boy. Despite earlier misgivings, Claire is overjoyed with her newborn. The next morning, Kate & Charlie accompany Claire and her new baby boy to the beach, where they are mobbed with the happy crowd waiting to see the island’s newest resident.

DAY 39: Holding her newborn baby boy, and with Charlie close by, Claire & the rest of the survivors feel the emotional impact of Boone’s death. Back at Claire’s shelter, Charlie & Sun tell her that she needs to rest. Charlie wants to take “Turnip Head” (because his head looks like a turnip!) so she can get some sleep.

Claire is scared that something will happen to him – that he will be hurt or taken. After Charlie convinces her that the baby will be fine – Claire lets go – but not before some last minute instructions. Claire finds Charlie with the baby – happily quiet, as long as Sawyer reads from his car magazine. She seems happy – and Sawyer, though he puts on a tough exterior, probably feels the same way.

DAY 42: Claire is attempting to cut Charlie’s hair, though he’s moving around – excited he’s finally feeling the flow and writing music again. Claire warns him that if he continues to move, he may be short an ear. Claire tells Charlie she’s not sure what she will do when they are rescued. Charlie suggests that she and “Turnip Head” come down to L.A. with him until they figure things out.

Claire happily agrees. As Charlie announce the title of track 2 – Claire once again tries to get him to sit still. Charlie goes on strumming “Monster Eats the Pilot” as the hair cut continues. Joins the group a little late, but sees the end of the confrontation between Sawyer & Kate about who the real criminal is. After Kate comes out with the truth, Claire goes off with Charlie.

DAY 43: Claire & her baby are awoken that morning by the commotion caused by the arrival of Danielle Rousseau. She protects her baby as the French woman makes her way through the camp. As the baby cries, she seems to take a keen interest in it. Finally, she makes a dire prediction: “The Others are coming.” Hears Danielle’s story – and finds out their choices are to run, hide or die.

Watches as the group attempts to launch the raft – sees the sign of “the others”: a pillar of black smoke. Claire attends the launch with her baby. She holds him out to Jin who shakes the little guys hand, then gives him a kiss on his head. She watches and cheers with the other survivors as the raft is launched, the sail is raised and the crew heads off to find their potential rescuers.

DAY 43 Cont.: Claire is working fervently to change her baby, while the other survivors get the hell off the beach. The black smoke is still ominously rising in the distance. Charlie comes over and states the obvious, while a harried Claire says she’s tired, she can’t carry the baby, he’s wet, there’s sand everywhere and she’s out of nappies! Charlie attempts to help, but Claire pushes him away “Look, nobody ever taught me how to do this.”

Charlie says everything’s going to be okay, but Claire says that’s what everyone tells her. “Are they the ones with a baby?” Claire is hurriedly packing, when Charlie arrives, saying he has found a solution to the baby transport issue. He has fashioned a bjorn (“Dutch for, uh, baby carrier”) for little Turnip Head. Claire is very happy, and thanks Charlie many times. Just as the baby is about to be loaded, Danielle appears, yelling for Sayid. Charlie says he’s already left – maybe she can wait for Jack or Kate? But no, she needs Sayid, NOW.

Charlie, not deciding to push the issue, quickly heads off to find Sayid. Alone with Danielle, the baby wakes up and begins to cry. Danielle begins to approach Claire, who steps back. She asks the babies name, but Claire doesn’t have one yet. She then asks to hold him. She continues to step backward, getting scared. She wants to know why she needs Sayid. “You don’t want me to hold him?” Claire tries to come up with an excuse – the baby just ate… but Danielle pleads with her, holding her arms open. Claire sees the scratches on her arm and suddenly has a flash of memory: “Why did I scratch you?” Danielle continues to advance on Claire, who has nowhere to go.

She knocks her on the head with something, because Sun finds her unconscious bleeding from a head wound. Sun calls for help, bringing Sayid & Charlie. Claire slowly wakes up immediately asking for her baby – asking if he’s alright. She soon realizes that Danielle took him – and she has no idea which way she went. Charlie his Sayid – blaming him for Danielle’s presence in camp. But Sayid stops his second hit – telling him if they want to catch up they have to leave now – he knows where she’s going.

Claire cries as she says she wants her baby. Claire runs to Sayid & Charlie just as about ready to track down Rousseau. She says she wants to come along as well. Thinks it’s a bad idea “This is my baby, okay? I let her take him!” Charlie tries to calm her down, but she pushes him away. “Don’t tell me what to do, okay?” She yells that it’s her fault and they can’t stop her – hitting Charlie. She continues to cry, but suddenly composes herself, realizing she’s not going. “Get him back, Charlie. Get back Aaron. Please get him back” Charlie promises to do just that.

Sun takes Claire to the caves where she runs off to get some supplies to ease her pain. She starts talking with Shannon about why they’re on the island – she says they’re being punished for things they’ve done, secrets they’ve kept, lies they’ve told. She says fate is punishing them. Claire overhears this and steps in: no one is punishing them. “There’s no such thing as fate.”

Later, Sun brings her some tea in a coconut cup. Claire ignores her, but then realizes she’s only trying to help and accepts her gift. Sun asks her what Aaron means, but Claire says she doesn’t know. (Interesting Aside: Aaron is yet another biblical Aaron was the older brother of Moses. Aaron can mean “exalted” “high mountain” or “messenger”). Sun goes on to try to ease the suffering Claire is obviously going through. She tells her “They will bring him back.” Claire doesn’t want to hear it… but she ask why she thinks that. Sun tells her that Charlie said he would, so he will. Claire clings to this hope as it’s the only thing she has left. Charlie doesn’t disappoint. He brings Aaron back, much to the delight of Claire. She gives him a big hug in return.

PRE-ISLAND

Age: Late 20s early 30s?

From: South Korea

Worked: Stay at home wife.

Family: Husband Jin (controlling) Father Mr. Paik (also controlling).

Reason for being in Australia: Jin’s business – also hoping to leave
husband for U.S.

Reason for going to LA: Still Jin’s business – also couldn’t go through with leaving her husband.

Sun comes from a relatively well-off family in Korea. The first time we see Sun is during a rather large party. Seems Jin, a simple waiter, and Sun are in love. Sun is worried about her father – she wants to get away, to America. Jin says he loves her, but will not elope with her. Jin says he’ll talk to her father, make him understand. Sun says he doesn’t know her father. Jin hands her a pretty white flower – vowing that one day it will be a diamond.

An unspecified time later, Sun is in a garden, glancing at her watch, when Jin shows up. He has good news: her father has given him permission to marry. Sun hugs Jin then playfully hits him, asking him how he managed to convince him. Jin tells her that he reasoned with him: one year of management training; one year of factory work, then they’ll have all the money they need. Sun seems wary of the idea of Jin working for her father, but he assures her it’s the right thing to do, plus it’s only temporary. He then surprises her with the diamond ring he promised – Sun says he can’t afford it, but he says he can… now. Sun hugs Jin – looking very happy indeed.

Jin has been working for her father for awhile when she comes home, designer shopping bags in hand, and finds a gold box with a blue ribbon and inside is a new puppy. Jin asks her if she likes it, then apologizes for working such long hours – and thought she might enjoy the company. And, of course, she will have to train and feed their new pet. Sun is quiet for a bit… then tells Jin if he remembered when the only thing he had to give her was a flower. Before they can continue the conversation, Jin gets a call from Sun’s father and if off again.

Some months later, Sun has prepared a feast to share together, since Jin has been working so much. Jin is ready to sit down to a good meal, even turning his cell phone off, but the regular phone rings and Jin is forced to run an errand for his work again.

That night, as Sun is sleeping on the sofa, Jin comes home, locks the door and without even acknowledging Sun, heads for the bathroom. Sun follows him, but he shuts the door on her. Determined, Sun opens the door. Jin is over the sink, washing his bloody hands. There is also blood on his shirt and face. Sun asks him if it’s his blood and when it’s obvious that it is not, asks him what he was doing – whose blood does he have on him? He answers he was working, but Sun wants to know more: what does he do for her father? She wants an answer – wants Jin to look at her. Jin ignores her – continuing to clean up. Sun tries to turn his head, but he won’t let her. Finally, she slaps him – and Jin, with a cold look on his face, finally answers: “I do whatever your father tells me. I do it for us.” Sun looks scared – as Jin continues to clean up, Sun walks quietly out of the bathroom.

Time passes, the puppy grows into a dog, and Jin & Sun have drifted further apart. A decorator is helping Sun with the apartment and money is no object. As Jin continues to work – telling Sun to move the dog – the decorator says maybe they should move to the bedroom. Once there, the façade is gone: the decorator wants to know if Sun is sure about what she’s doing – if she’s taken her lessons. She also must know that Jin and her father will do everything they can to find her. She asks if there’s any way she and Jin can reconcile, but she shakes her head no. Sun gets an envelope with a passport and is told at the airport, at 11:15 there will be a car waiting. She is to bring nothing – and she has to stay out of sight for at least a week or so – until her family thinks she is dead. Then she will be free to move around wherever she wants. Sun repeats to the decorator the time and place: “The airport. At 11:15…”

It’s 11:15 at the airport. Jin is waiting in line behind some guy who is arguing with the ticket attendant – giving her a distraction. She sees a black car pull up outside and she prepares to head for the door… then she looks back at Jin and begins to cry. She heads towards the door and stops again to look at Jin – he looks back and reaches into his jacket and pulls out a white flower – the same one he presented her with before he took the deal with her father, before they married, before they drifted apart. The deal is off – Sun, still crying, makes her way to stand beside Jin. She takes the flowers and Jin notices she’s crying and asks if something is wrong: she says “It’s too beautiful” Jin finally gets his turn in line, as Sun continues to cherish the flower.

Before boarding the flight, Sun gets Jin and her some food and beverages. Navigating the crowded eating section, Sun nearly spills the coffee, but makes it to their table with everything intact. Jin asks what took so long, and Sun says she’s really hungry now – the lines were really long. She says there wasn’t much of a selection so she only got some simple food for them. She opens a napkin and places it on Jin’s lap. Across the way Gina, a very loud American, asks her husband, Jeff, that if she ever does anything like that for him, to please shoot her.

Sun understands every word, but can say nothing. As Sun is about to cut the sandwich she bought in half, she accidentally knocks over a cup of coffee on Jin’s lap. She apologizes, but Jin doesn’t appear upset. Sun points out a bathroom and he leaves to clean up. Gina once again loudly exclaims that it’s “Memoirs of a Geisha” come to life. Her husband tells her to keep it down, but she says to relax “They don’t speak English.”

They board flight 815 together and Sun sits down with a Korean magazine, not realizing the turmoil her husband is going through. However, we all know their final destination…

DAY FOUR-FIVE: Is amongst the group when Sayid announces the transceiver failed to pick up a signal. Tries to find Jin’s suitcase. The one she brings is not the right one and Jin asks her if she’s seen herself. She’s filthy – he tells her to go wash up. He also says he loves her, but Sun only gives a half-hearted smile in return.

Sun takes Jin’s advice and washes up… only to be interrupted by Michael who comes flying out of the jungle. Sun, topless, turns away as Michael stammers that something was chasing him. Sun covers herself as Michael averts his eyes and hands her over her own shirt. He stutters out that he didn’t see anything – if she’s worried – he didn’t see anything. The next morning, while Sun sleeps, Jin brushes the hair out of her face.

DAY FIVE-SIX: That night, Sun is awoken by some strange noises coming from the fuselage. Jack & Sawyer go investigate and soon come out with their findings… RUN. Jin stands in front of Sun, hoping to protect her from whatever was causing the trouble (according to Locke, boars).

The next morning Sun is carrying some plants across the beach when Michael runs up to her. Not knowing she can understand English, he crudely tries to get his point across that he wants her to watch Walt why he goes out to hunt. Sun gives him the OK signal, and Michael goes off to hunt.

Walt isn’t happy with this arrangement, but Sun duly follows him & Vincent as they wander off. Helps promote good hygiene by showing Walt how aloe can make an effective toothpaste. As soon as Michael shows back up at camp, the babysitting duty is over.

DAY SEVEN: Sun watches as Walt shows Michael his new aloe brushing technique. Jin comes up and is worried she isn’t getting enough water. She tells him she’s OK. Then, looking somewhat fearful, she tells Jin she doesn’t think they will be rescued. Jin still thinks someone is coming. She then mentions that maybe if they tried harder to communicate, the other survivors wouldn’t ignore them.

Jin is still sticking to his “us vs. them” mentality, telling Sun they don’t need anyone else: he will tell her what to do. Later, Sayid comes up to her, yelling. He wants to know where she got the water. Sun explains, in Korean, before Jin comes up and starts yelling at Sayid. Eventually he points to Sawyer.

That night, after Jack comes back, Sun thanks Jin for getting her water earlier in the day. Jin replies that’s what husbands do.

DAY EIGHT: Sun is smelling a red & yellow flower – she watches Jin fish, but then chooses to watch Kate & Jack as they banter back and forth. It reminds her of happier times with Jin… who shows up banging his fresh catch against wreckage, snaps her back to reality. Suddenly Jin stomps on her plants and makes a bee line towards the beach; towards Michael. Sun tries to make him tell her what’s wrong, but he doesn’t listen.

He begins to run towards Michael and tackles him – he straddles him and begins punching him – eventually moving deeper into the ocean, nearly drowning Michael. Sun is screaming at him to stop, but nothing it getting through to Jin. It takes both Sayid and Sawyer to stop Jin, who they end up handcuffing to piece of the wreckage. Sayid asks her what happened, but says nothing.

Watches as Sayid questions Michael – with Jin shouting out at them every now and then. She motions to have the handcuffs taken off, but Sayid shouts that they stay on. (“A little louder, Omar. Maybe then she’ll understand you.”) Sun attempts to rub aloe on Jin’s chaffed wrist. Even though she’s just trying to help, Jin becomes irritated with her, telling her to be careful. She stops trying to help and looks off into the distance wistfully.

Later, Sun watches as Michael yells at Jin for supposedly saying something to his boy. Michael takes Walt away and Sun asks Jin to let her explain what happened – they’ll let him go. Jin says that her place is by his side… and that they will not explain themselves to a thief. Sun watches Michael go into the jungle to chop wood and she slowly approaches him. She stands in front of him, waiting for him to notice her. When he finally does, he’s aggravated: “Look who came to chat.”

Sun is nervous but finally says, in English, that she has to talk to him. Michael is blown away. After his initial surprise, he finds out that Sun speaks English, but her husband doesn’t know. “He has a bad temper,” and says that what happened that morning was a misunderstanding – it was the watch. Michael takes off the watch – and can’t believe he was almost murdered for it. He just found it two days ago.

Sun says the watch belonged to her father – protecting it is a matter of honor. Michael is wondering what kind of honor it is to get nearly killed in front of his kid. “You don’t know my father.” Sun says that she needs his help. Sun ends the night with a now-freed Jin, holding up some new-found clothes at the caves.

DAY NINE: Sun attempts to soothe Jin’s wrist, rubbed raw from the handcuff, and tells him he should have the doctor look at it. Jin says it will heal. When he notices what she’s wearing, he says it’s indecent and that she should cover up. Sun says it’s hot and despite Jin’s look of disbelief, she’s not changing.

Sun watches as the cave collapses as Jin pulls her back to protect her. She is genuinely concerned about the situation. Sun doesn’t hesitate in helping clear the first tunnel or the second. Celebrates as Charlie leads Jack back to the caves via an exit he found. As she cleans up, she catches Michael looking at her from across the camp.

DAY TEN-ELEVEN: Watches with concern as Shannon suffers from an asthma attack. When Jack & Sawyer get into a fight, Jin pulls her away. When the fight ends, Jin takes her away from Sawyer, who is getting no sympathy whatsoever. The next day she approaches Michael (who is fighting a losing battle gutting a fish), makes sure they’re along, then says she thinks she can help the sick girl.

Michael comes back to camp with what he hopes is the correct plant. Sun takes a sniff and confirms that Michael found the right one. Jin shows up and starts yelling. He looks suspiciously from Sun to Michael and continues talking. Sun takes the plants and leaves the two of them alone.

Sun uses the mixture and rubs it on Shannon’s chest. Her breathing is now calm and clear. Jack shows up and smells the mixture and recognizes it instantly: “Eucalyptus.” Jack thanks Sun, very much and she smiles. Then she sees Jin come back to the caves with bamboo – look at her, and leave. Her smile fades quickly.

Alone with Kate, she smiles at her cute story only to give Kate enough information that she can understand and speak English... hey, Kate’s not the only one whose been lying. Tells Kate that only Michael knows her secret, that not even Jin is aware of her talent. Says it’s complicated and that she can’t tell Jin because she loves him.

DAY 24-26: Present at the caves when Claire makes her return. Tells Jin that Claire is okay and that the baby most likely is too. After Jin’s encounter with Ethan (or at least an encounter with a rock from Ethan’s sling), Sun administers to his wounds. Suffice to say, Jin blames the rest for the attack and Sun can only go along for the ride.

DAY 30-32: Some days later, Sun is ready for a swim, but Jin comes out hollering about her bikini. He tries to cover her up with a blanket and drag her off, but only succeeds in knocking her down. A concerned Michael starts arguing with Jin. Sun realized that if she doesn’t do something, it’ll turn into a fistfight, so she slaps Michael and quickly drags Jin away.

Back at the caves, Jin asks her if she’s having a relationship with Michael, but she denies any such thing. She later meets with Michael and says she was protecting him… that he doesn’t know what Jin is capable of. Defends Jin to Kate saying he used to be different, tender, but gets interrupted by the panic over the burning raft. Michael immediately seeks Sun out, asking about Jin. Sun, still hiding her English, pretends like she doesn’t understand him.

Michael keeps the heat on, but gets distracted by Walt, giving Sun the opening she needs to run off. Finds Jin back at the caves, tending to a burn on his arm. At this point, she also suspects him saying “Michael was trying to get us off this island” and causing Jin to become suspicious once again. Jin is taken by Sawyer to the beach and Sun finds him just as Michael is beginning to really beat him. Before it can go further, Sun says, in English to Stop. Jack, Charlie, Hurley and Jin all look surprised.

Sun says that the raft was already on fire when Jin got to it and he burned himself by trying to put it out. When she asks him why he ran… he gives no response. She says her husband is many things, but not a liar. Sawyer seems to think she’s covering for him, but Locke delivers his speech on the “others” and it placates the crowd. Sun tries to walk back with Jin, but he throws her off – leaving her alone.

At the caves, Jin is packing, preparing to leave for the beach. Sun asks many questions: “Is that how you've chosen to deal with me? Why didn't you just tell me you didn't burn the raft? Why won't you speak to me Jin? What have I done to deserve this? When did we stop talking?” But Jin says nothing. She tells him she was going to leave him, but that he made her believe he still loved her.

She asks to start over and, for a brief moment, it appears he will, then he spies his burnt hands and claims “It’s too late” leaving Sun alone, crying. Later, a liberated Sun dons her bikini once more and takes a swim in the ocean waves.

DAY 35: The next day Sun is watching Jin and crew build the raft and tells Kate he will never speak to her again because she humiliated him. She asks Kate if she thinks Jin will leave on the boat, but Kate says she doesn’t know.

DAY 36: Sun is working hard in her garden when Sawyer shows up asking her about plants. It seems he’s been using the right prescription, but it isn’t helping his headaches. Sun apologizes as Sawyer goes off, complementing the garden.

Kate comes up and asks what’s the problem and Sun explains that Sawyer has been suffering from bad headaches that don’t seem to be affected by Aspirin or any herbal remedies.

DAY 37-38: Sun gets into the action as soon as a mortally-wounded Boone is brought into the caves. Jack has Sun get him some scissors and then diapers (to staunch Boone’s chest wound) and she gets promoted to head nurse. She witnesses first hand Jack’s grace under pressure as he quickly solves the problem of Boone’s collapsed lung.

After checking Boone’s chest, she asks Jack if he can sew up the gaping wound. Jack not only will sew him up, but he promises Boone that he will save him. Sun does her best to assist Jack as he sews up the aforementioned wound. He then tells Sun that Boone will require a blood transfusion to survive – but not until his leg is set. Sun gives Jack a break and preps the leg for island surgery.

Sun proves she knows more than herbal remedies by providing Boone with a piece of wood – so he doesn’t bite off his tongue from the intense pain he’s about to experience. Sun grabs hold of Boone’s shoulders as Jack sets the leg – needless to say, Boone feels it. Despite just going though (I’m guessing) the most pain in his life – Sun does her best to get Boone to say his blood type. At the same time, Jack is having little luck finding something to act as a needle; the bamboo just isn’t cutting it. Suddenly Boone utters A Negative, which Sun confirms.

Sun is sent off to find Charlie to put him on mission to find an A Negative – and to find Shannon. As Jack & Charlie are talking blood types – Sun shows back up at the makeshift infirmary. Instead of finding Shannon, she went on a fishing expedition. She holds up her catch – a sea urchin, and then takes out one spine – a needle sharp enough to pierce a noodle – Jack tests it out and is happy with the results. Jack then says since there was no A Negative found – and O Negative will have to do – and Jack becomes the universal donor to save Boone’s life.

Jin shows up at the infirmary – looking like he got there in a hurry. After speaking and trying to convey his message – Sun acts as his translator. It seems Claire is out in the jungle and is in labor. He says the contractions are two minutes apart and Claire can’t move, but it doesn’t appear she’s nauseous, bleeding or that he water broke. After some more talking – Charlie & Jin go back to Claire with supplies – to tell Kate that she will be in charge of the delivery. Jack & Sun are staying with Boone.

As Jack starts to get pale & wan – Sun realizes that the transfusion isn’t working. Jack blames is on compartment syndrome – the leg wound is pooling all the blood. Sun rips out the tube before Jack collapses from blood loss. When Sun learns that Jack is planning to amputate Boone’s crushed leg – she isn’t happy about it.

As she attempts to give Boone some water, he coughs up blood and she realizes that even if the leg is cut off – Boone’s internal injuries are far too grievous to survive on the island. She tries to reason with Jack but he only quotes Locke “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” Sun still tries, to no avail, to stop Jack. In the end, Jack does not go through with it and, as one life leaves the island, another is given as Claire gives birth to a baby boy.

DAY 39: Sun – gave everything to save Boone, and showed just as much (if not more) mettle than Jack – shares the grief of the others survivor’s at Boone’s funeral. Follows the action as Jack & Locke smack down – when Jack collapses and is taken back to camp, she takes over from Sayid and tells Jack he needs rest.

She helps Charlie convince Claire that she needs rest and to let Charlie take “Turnip Head” for a little while. Claire gives him over, grudgingly, as she takes some much-needed rest.

DAY 42: The next day Sun is present by the boat, which is shaping up nicely, when Leslie Arzt starts his lesson: if the boat is not launched in the coming days, they will miss their chance to catch the favorable trade winds north and will wind up heading south, towards Antarctica. Sun feels the impact of this announcement, while Jin blissfully works away – his limited grasp of English not helping any in this situation.

She later approached Jin and has to ask him twice if he is really going. Jin answers that yes, he is indeed going – causing Sun to turn and leave while he continues working on the boat. While walking with Kate, Sun seems alarmed when Walt runs up and reports that his dad is having bad stomach pains. While Kate runs off in search of Jack, Sun goes with Walt to take a look at Michael.

As work on the raft continues, Sun watches a healthy Jin work. Jack comes up to her and figures that she doesn’t want to Jin to leave – and deduces that’s why she tried to make him sick. Sun is busted, but says she only did what she did because she didn’t want Jin to die and couldn’t think of anything else to do. Jack tells her that he will keep the secret – but that Jin is going on the raft and she should make her goodbye.

Sun visits Kate that night and tells her that Jack knows… but she didn’t mention that it was Kate’s idea. Why should Kate be punished for trying to help her? Kate tells her that Jack is good at keeping a secret. Sun says that when she was a little girl that once she found the man she loved, she would be happy forever. Kate can only agree with her.

DAY 43: Observes as the raft is (almost) launched – but it falls off the rails, breaking the mast. She also observes the thick black smoke rising in the distance… a sign from “the others”. Just before launching, Sun approaches Jin. He still seems a little distant, but Sun grabs him. She also has a gift: a Korean-English dictionary with the words spelled out phonetically. Jin gives it a try and says starboard, after a little hitch.

Jin begins to cry – everything he’s done in the past catching up. He tells Sun he is sorry. Sun tells him he doesn’t have to go, but Jin thinks differently. He’s in this place because he made Sun suffer – she doesn’t deserve any of this. He has to go because he wants to save her. He tells her to stay with Jack – he’ll keep her safe. Sun asks Jin who will keep him safe. Finally, the two embrace. Sun says she loves Jin. Jin says he’s sorry again. The two separate, look into each others eyes and kiss.

Sun and Michael share an awkward goodbye hug – then shares a nothing-even-remotely awkward kiss with Jin. While the other survivors are screaming and cheering, Sun quietly watches the raft launch raising her hand to her forehead as the raft drifts off further and further away.
