I'm supporting Andy Murray too, although I don't think he has what it takes to take on Federer, yet.
But how awesome was that reverse forehand whatchamacallit return that he pulled out. Brilliant

So, yeah, Federer-Murray final is confirmed. I didn't see Federer's match, but from the sounds of it, he put on a clinic. The final should be interesting, both seem to be in good form, and Murray shouldn't have the first Slam final nerves that he had when they played in the US Open final and Roger dusted him.

Unfortunately, it wasn't so much that Federer was good last night, Tsonga just didn't show up. For whatever reason. Federer did nothing wrong, but on that day Tsonga didn't have it. He looked bad at times.
Looking forward to Federer/Murray.

I woke up at 3:30 CST and watched the second and third sets of the mens final. The third set was amazing. Fed beat Murray in straight sets, 13-11 in the third set tiebreaker if I remember right. Murray choked up and couldn't finish during the awards ceremony, the weight of The Empire on his shoulders. I felt bad for him.

Weeee!!!
I woke up about halfway through the first set, and watched that and all of the second before I had to go get in the shower, came back halfway through the third. The tiebreak actually started about ten minutes before I had to leave for work, so I figured, hey, perfect timing I can leave right after. Little did I know that it would be a twenty minute marathon tiebreak. If Federer had converted on his first match point, I would have had time to stop at Tim Horton's, but no such luck. I literally was running out the door right after the handshake.
I feel bad for Murray too. So far the British press has been pretty much all supportive of him, but I have a feeling that the longer he goes without actually winning a Slam, the closer they'll come to turning on him, and you know how vicous they can be when that happens. I haven't actually read any of the British reaction, but I can't imagine they'll take to kindly to him getting straight-setted in both finals he's played in. I don't understand how anyone can deal with that sort of pressure, I'd have a nervous breakdown.
On a side note, apparently Rafa is going to drop to number four in the rankings on Monday. It'll be his first time out of the top three since 2005. Plus, he's out for a month with the knee injury and has a ton of points to defend between now and the start of the French Open, so he could drop even lower. It feels so bizarre not having him and Federer one/two.

Just how DO you beat the pants off BOTH Williams sisters back to back, and then LOSE to an unknown Spanyard in the final? I hate tennis sometimes.

She lost? Seriously? That's actually kind of funny.
On the other hand, Ana actually put together some decent wins for the first time in forever, which is nice to see.

My favorite thing about the open so far? Just how damn serious the ball boys are. It's actually pretty damn funny to watch.

So...no Serena/Justine quarter after all. Kind of surprised to see Justine go down in the fourth round here, but Stosur has been playing really well lately, so good for her. Hopefully she can keep it up against Serena.
I'll be shocked if Rafa doesn't take back his title on the men's side, so I'm just rooting for Roger to keep the semi streak alive. A win over Soderling tomorrow would put it at 24 and counting.

And there goes the streak. Federer just wasn't on his game today and the weather didn't help at all. Sucks that he's out but it also gives some other guys a chance to shine for once. Now that he's out I'll be cheering on Djokovich to win it all.

Oh well, it had to end some time I guess. Honestly, I consider that record to be his most impressive achievement, even moreso than the sixteen majors and the Career Slam. It's more than double the next closest, and nobody is going to come close to it for a long-ass time.
The only thing I'm really disappointed about is that it means Rafa will be number 1 if when he wins, when Federer is apparently two weeks shy of that record (most total weeks at number 1, he already owns the most consecutive weeks by a huge margin).
And yes, I realize I'm a very greedy fan when it comes to Fed. I can't help it - I rely on his awesomeness to make up for the misery that comes with being a Leafs fan and well, there's a whole lot of misery that comes with being a Leafs fan.
One final thing: Can the people writing articles about the match stop saying Federer was "stunned" by Soderling. He lost to the fifth seed here, who happens to be playing the best tennis of his life at the moment. And yeah, Soderling had never actually beaten Federer before, but they've had some pretty tight matches in the last year or so, including one at the US Open last fall.
Still though, if the final ends up being Soderling vs. Djokovic, I'm rooting for the meteor.

Đoković impersonating Shakira and Troicki as Nadal.

This is a crazy tourny. Both Williams sisters are out. Federer didn't even make it to the semis, and now Djokovich hanging on for dear life. I honestly wouldnt be surprised to see Nadal lose at this point.

I'm really sorry there won't be a Đoković-Nadal semi, but Melzer was playing like crazy and he deserved the win.

To be fair, other than that one year where they played each other in the final, the Williams sisters have never done particularly well at the French Open. Venus in particular has a tendency to lose early in Paris.
On the other hand, both Federer and Djokovic going down before the semis is pretty surprising.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up for Elena Dementieva, since she's crushed them so often, but I would love to see either her or Stosur take the women's title.

I feel your pain. I was a Safin fan, who was like Djokovic times 100. There's nothing more frustrating as a fan than watching someone play below their potential.

Um, what the sweet fuck? I go to work right before play begins for the year, and come home to find that Fed had to come back from two sets down against some guy I've never heard of? At WIMBLEDON?
Did he play crappy or did the other guy play amazing?
Also, I'm a little shocked to see that Cilic went down in straights. I've always just assumed that all Croatians are great grass-court players.

John Isner and Nicolas Mahut are locked in a battle (40-39 in the fifth set) at Wimbledon, the longest match in history.
