I know Nintendo was trying to do something interesting and new but I personally don't really feel like it adds much. Every once and a while there is a really cool use for it (I've heard it does some pretty awesome stuff in the newest Silent Hill game) but overall I feel like the idea was very underused and if there had never been a little speaker, we never would have known the difference. Not to say that I'm damning Nintendo for putting them on there, I always like options and new things that don't get in the way, but I do feel like for the most part it was a failed experiment.

I own a Wii, but I hardly every use it. I'm not really aware of how the speaker is used across their library. However, when I've played a game that used it, I always think to myself that this is something that should be included on all consoles in the future. I strongly believe that controllers having force feedback really helps immersion a lot; I think a speaker in the controller could help there as well.

I like the speaker in new super mario bros. It plays the awesome sounds of powerups. It doesn't really add much, but I loved it.

Oh I fucking hate them, because they only work like half of the time at the most. That sucks for games like Raving Rabbids, where some of the minigames require use of the speakers. It's hard to win those when nothing, or only shitty crackly noise, is coming out of the speakers.
And it's not like it's just one faulty controller. I have four Wii remotes, and I'm pretty sure all of them do it.

I almost feel like it's ahead of it's time which is weird because we absolutely have the technology to do it well.

The sound quality is very low-grade. Neat idea that often is executed poorly because you get a muffled, original-GBA-speaker kind of quality to it.

I appreciate the innovation and trying new things, but ultimately it just feels a little unnecessary and rushed. I did think it was cool when I was playing GH3 for the first time and the error noise when you miss a button combo is pretty rad. It was also kind of neat during Twilight Princess.
I could have done without it, but it seems like a fairly small and unimportant detail when looking at the big picture. If that solely causes you to like or dislike a game or the console altogether, then you're probably one of those people who is rarely content anyway.
